UNODC Participates in the "Ibero-America: Alliances for New Paradigms" Forum
In the context of the XXIII Ibero-American Summit in Panamá, the civil society association Vanguardia Iberoamericana organized a Forum titled "Ibero-America: Alliances for new Paradigms", which gathered a number of international experts and was attended by 200 students, social and/or community leaders, artists, members of indigenous populations and representatives of civil society organizations.
The main objective of the Forum was to foster multilateral communication and generate discussions on priority issues of general interest among the participants. In order to achieve this objective, several thematic working groups were defined, providing authorities, academics and directors of international organizations with a space to deliver a series of presentations that paved the way for the development of very substantive debates.
In the framework of the Thematic Working Group 5 - Organized Crime: Perversion of the Phenomenon, the UNODC ROPAN Representative, Mr. Amado Philip de Andrés, delivered a presentation on the main characteristics of this issue in Central America and the Caribbean, followed by a very detailed explanation of the situation of Trafficking in Persons and Illicit Smuggling of Migrants in the region.
The UNODC ROPAN presentation was very well received by the audience which demonstrated interest through active participation in the subsequent discussions.
