Graduation of the Course on Prevention, Research and Processing of Corruption in El Salvador

San Salvador, February 8, 2018. On February 7, 2018, the project "Fight against corruption in El Salvador" carried out the graduation of the Corruption Prevention, Investigation and Prosecution course in El Salvador. This initiative has been promoted by UNODC El Salvador, with the objective of training public officials; the participants being officials of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic, the National Civil Police, the Supreme Court of Justice, the Executive Technical Unit of the Justice Sector, with the financial support of the Embassy of the United States in El Salvador, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs- INL.

The course was designed and taught with the purpose of contributing to the institutional strengthening and management in the fight against corruption in El Salvador, through theoretical and practical training, ensuring that what is learned is translated into the efficiency of institutions and in the decrease of impunity in the country.

The content of the course was developed in five different modules, in which topics such as domain extinction, patrimonial and financial research, money laundering classes, human rights in corruption, leadership, among others, were developed.

The graduation was attended by Mr Douglas Arquímides Melendez, Attorney General of the Republic, Mr. Oscar Armando Pineda, President of the Supreme Court of Justice, Mrs. Monica Mendoza, Chief of UNODC Country Office and Ms. Janet Huntley Turnbull, Resident Legal Advisor of the Embassy of the United States in El Salvador.

Through the facilitation of this course, a total of 97 public officials were trained, with the presence of police investigators, prosecutors, judges and experts from the technical justice unit.
