Prachuap Khiri Khan (Thailand), 28-30 June 2023 – The UNODC, in partnership with the Royal Police Cadet Academy (RPCA), organized a training workshop for police cadets based on the success and positive feedback received from a similar workshop held in 2022. The primary objective of this workshop was to equip young police officers with the knowledge and skills to address and combat corruption effectively.

The workshop focused on providing the police cadets with an understanding of the characteristics of corruption and mechanisms to prevent and combat it. To achieve this, a series of presentations were delivered by various entities, including law enforcement agencies such as the anti-corruption division and disciplinary division of the Royal Thai Police, the prosecutor general's office, a former judge, academics, and specialized anti-corruption agencies such as the Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (ONACC) and the Office of Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC). These presentations aimed to introduce international standards of ethics and integrity in law enforcement to the participants.

In addition to the presentations, the workshop incorporated interactive group work sessions where the police cadets had the opportunity to discuss and present their perspectives on how to prevent and address corruption in policing. These exercises involved analyzing case studies or hypothetical situations related to corruption and disciplinary violations. Through the sessions, participants developed critical thinking skills and gained practical insights into handling corruption-related challenges.

The workshop concluded with a study visit to the Prachuap Khiri Khan Immigration Office, providing the participants with a real-world perspective on corruption prevention. Overall, the workshop aimed to enhance the cadets’ understanding of corruption, strengthen their immunity to corruption in risky situations, and foster positive attitudes and mindsets among future police officers. By providing the police cadets with comprehensive training and exposing them to international standards, this initiative aims to contribute to a more accountable and transparent police force in Thailand.

This activity was funded by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Korea (KMOJ) and the Kingdom of Denmark.
