Scaling up the Strengthening Families Programme (SFP 10-14) in Turkmenistan

15-18 October 2019, Ashgabat, Building the capacity of national health practitioners was at the heart of a TOT (Training of Trainers) workshop on SFP 10-14 held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. The UNODC Regional Programme for Afghanistan and Neighbouring Countries organized the workshop with the engagement of 30 Turkmen teachers/SFP facilitators. During the 4-day training workshop, under the supervision of an international SFP trainer, 8 national SFP facilitators led the sessions and successfully received the TOF (Training of Facilitators) certification. Concurrently, 22 new teachers also were awarded the National SFP facilitators' certificates. Training national facilitators/trainers has immense value for the expansion of the SFP 10-14 in Turkmenistan.

The SFP 10-14 helps youth, parents, and families in preventing substance abuse and other behavior problems, strengthening parenting skills and building family strengths, respectively.

The new national trainers, along with national facilitators, will lead a 7-week primary session of the SFP 10-14 for new youth and families in new schools in Ashgabat.
