Maldives: Workshop on "Training of Law Enforcement Professionals on Human Rights Based, HIV and Drug Treatment and Prevention Approaches"

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in collaboration with the National Drug Agency is organizing a training workshop titled "Training of Law Enforcement Professionals on Human Rights Based, HIV and Drug Treatment and Prevention Approaches".
The workshop aims at sensitizing judges, prosecutors and law enforcement officials on evidence-based HIV treatment and drug treatment approaches particularly for incarcerated drug users. The workshop is also aimed at sensitising officials on the new Drug Act (17/2011).
Officials from the Drug Court, the Prosecutor General's Office, Maldives National Defence Force, Maldives Police Service, Maldives Customs Service, Maldives Ports Limited, Department of Penitentiary & Rehabilitation Services and the National Drug Agency will attend the workshop.
The workshop will be conducted under the project titled "Strengthening the National Response to Combat Drug Abuse in the Maldives" implemented by UNODC and funded by the European Union (EU). The project aims at providing support for strengthening the technical capacity for the coordination and management of drug prevention, treatment and care programmes in the country.
