Maldives: Training of Trainers workshop on drug dependence treatment and care

As part of the project, 'Strengthening national capacities to combat drug use in the Maldives', UNODC is organising a Training of Trainers workshop on drug dependence treatment and care from 18 to 25 September 2011 in Male, Maldives. The training is being conducted in association with the UNODC Drug Prevention and Health Branch, Vienna and the UNODC Regional Office for Central Asia and East Pacific.
The week long training will focus on three thematic areas: a) initial screening, assessment and treatment planning; b) elements of psychosocial treatment; and c) addiction medications and special populations. Three master trainers from South East Asia will lead the training.
Thirty two participants from the Department of Drug Prevention and Rehabilitation Services (DDPRS) and the Department of Penitentiary and Rehabilitation Services (DPRS), Government of Maldives and fifteen NGOs are attending the workshop. They will be trained as national trainers in one of the three aforementioned thematic areas. On completion of the training, they will be expected to form national training teams and conduct ongoing national level training sessions, with mentoring support and advice by the master trainers.
