Nepal: ‘Buddhana’ - Art for the rights of women living with HIV, women using drugs and women living in prison

Buddhana - proud, inspired, envisioned
On the occasion of the centennial celebrations of International Woman's Day, UNODC in partnership with Recovering Nepal Female Forum, National Federation of Women Living with HIV and FAITH brings an expressive, creative and entertainment-based event titled "Buddhana". The theme of the event is "proud, inspired, envisioned" respecting the present state of opportunity, capability and power of femininity in the 21st century. The event is going to be an innovative implementation of social activism where the issues, rights, expressions, stories, capabilities, power and achievements of marginalized women will be depicted through various forms of traditional and contemporary art, art related events and projects.
Women have been the inspiration for art since centuries. The bonding of women, their expression through art is remarkable. The event aims to create a pervasive impression on the minds of people in society about the issues of women, through various activities and events related with art, in its various forms.
The focus of the art works, events and projects is women living in prisons, women using drugs and women living with HIV. Seven renowned and motivated artists namely Ashmita Ranjit, Sarita Dangol, Samjhana Rajbhandari, Reeta Manandhar, Bidhata K.C, Kapil Mani Dixit and Sohan Khatri have come together to explore the issues of these marginalized women by interacting with them and encouraging them to participate in expressive art therapy. During the event, the Mandala Group will perform a theatrical piece that will represent the situation of women in prisons.
