UNODC Staff member receives gold award



Phnom Penh (Cambodia), 14 December 2012
- Ms. Kanha Chan, UNODC National Project Officer for Project Childhood (Protection Pillar), received a gold medal award on the National Day Against Human Trafficking. The award was presented by H.E Chou Bun Eng, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Interior, and the Chair of the Secretariat of the National Committee to lead the Suppression of Human Trafficking, Smuggling, Labour Exploitation, and Sexual exploitation in women and children (NC-STSLS), at a ceremony held at the Poipet Border International Gate in Banteay Meanchey. The event was attended by 1500 participants and other recipients of awards included UNIAP and World Vision Cambodia.

The award is presented to persons for their "professional integrity and quality of work, and services rendered". The award to Kanha was in recognition of many years of her contribution and active role in the fight against human trafficking and sexual exploitation. Kanha has worked with UNODC for two years and takes the lead role in implementing activities under the framework of Project Childhood (Protection Pillar) in Cambodia. Prior to joining UNODC, Kanha worked with International Organization for Migration (IOM) and has a wealth of experience and knowledge in issues related to human trafficking and sexual exploitation of children.
