The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime's (UNODC) mission is to contribute to the achievement of security and justice for all by making the world safer from drugs, crime, corruption and terrorism. The Regional Programme for Southeast Asia 2014-2017 works towards this goal and is supported by the work of UNODC's office in Lao PDR.
While continuing regional integration and rapid economic changes within the country are positive developments, they also present other challenges related to border security, corruption, drugs and human trafficking.
UNODC is currently working with the Government of Lao PDR and national partners to confront these challenges, including through projects related to human trafficking and alternative development.
In line with UNODC mandates, UNODC's work in Lao PDR responds to the above challenges via five inter-related Sub-Programmes:
(1) Transnational Organised Crime and Illicit Trafficking;
(2) Anti-Corruption;
(3) Terrorism Prevention;
(4) Criminal Justice Systems; and
(5) Drugs and Health and Alternative Development.
