Election and term of office of the Bureau
With effect from the year 2000, the Commission, at the end of its session, elects its Bureau for the next session. The newly elected Bureau plays an active role in the preparation of the regular and the inter-sessional meetings of the Commission.
In view of the practice of rotation of offices based on regional distribution, the officers at the forty-seventh session of the Commission are from the following regional groups: Chairman from the African group; the three Vice-Chairmen from the Asia and Pacific group, Western Europe and Others Group (WEOG), and Eastern European group; and the rapporteur from the Latin America and the Caribbean group.
