1966/1106(XL). | Implementation of the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, 1961 |
The Economic and Social Council, Recalling its resolutions 833 B (XXXII) and 914 C (XXXIV) of 3 August 1961 and 3 August 1962, and General Assembly resolution 1774 (XVII) of 7 December 1962 relating to the ratification of or accession to the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, 1961,18/ 1. Notes that the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, 1961, came into force on 13 December 1964 and is being acceded to or ratified by an increasing number of States; 2. Takes note of the arrangements for the implementation of the Convention as set out in the report of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs on its twentieth session;19/ 3. Decides to establish the date of 2 March 1968 as the date when the International Narcotics Control Board shall enter upon its duties, in pursuance of article 45, paragraph 2, of the Convention; 4. Decides, pursuant to the suggestion made in paragraph 21 of the note by the Secretary-General,20/ to set up a committee on candidatures consisting of thirteen members; 5. Approves the procedure for election of members of the International Narcotics Control Board, as contained in the report of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs and as outlined by the Secretary-General; 6. Requests the Secretary-General to set in motion the process for the first elections of the International Narcotics Control Board in accordance with article 9 of the Convention and the above approved procedure; 7.
