At its 1856th meeting, on 17 May 1973, the Council held elections to fill the seats falling vacant at the end of 1973 in the functional commissions.
The term of office of the members elected to the Commission on Human Rights is three years while the term of office of the members elected to the Statistical Commission, the Population Commission and the Commission on Narcotic Drugs is four years.
