Products of Peace

The Colombian Government and UNODC support farmers' associations engaged in alternative development products including beans, cacao, palm hearts, coffee, honey, coconuts, dairy products and gourmet sauces. Many of these enterprises produce organic products in environment-friendly systems making them profitable and competitive in domestic and international markets including supermarket chains and the airline industry. Many of the alternative products and specialty coffees from five regions of Colombia can be bought and sampled at the coffee shop 'La Tienda de La Paz' at the UNODC country office in Bogota.

The Colombian Government's initiative for the marketing of alternative development products under the label of  "Products of Peace", which is based on a strong relationship with the private sector in Colombia are examples of important partnerships and innovative approaches that  could be adapted to other contexts and countries.

 

Alternative development products
