International Center for the Prevention of Crime; Montreal, Canada - (ICPC)

International Center for the Prevention of Crime (ICPC) was founded in 1994 and is an international forum for national governments, local authorities, public agencies, specialized institutions, and non-government organizations to exchange experience, emerging knowledge, and policies and programmes in crime prevention and community safety. It assists cities and countries to reduce delinquency, violent crime and insecurity.

It helps put knowledge into action by making the knowledge base for strategic crime prevention and community safety better known and more accessible worldwide, encouraging the use of good practices and tools to produce community safety, fostering exchanges between countries and cities, criminal justice institutions and community-based organizations, providing technical assistance and training.

As a PNI member, ICPC included in its work plan for 2008 the publication of a report on trends in crime and crime prevention, and compendiums of good practice on youth and youth gangs, the management of public space, women's safety and indigenous peoples. This will be a new step in fighting transnational crime as it will be the first world report prepared in this area.

In 2007 in partnership with UN Habitat and UNODC and other regional institutions ICPC has co-hosted a professional seminar for African police agencies and crime prevention practitioners on 'Integrating Community Policing into a Broader Crime Prevention Approach. Furthermore, the Institution intends to participate on a Manual on the crime prevention Guidelines together with UNODC. The Manual shall achieve crime prevention at more effective, humane and action-oriented at the national and urban (local) levels.
