International Scientific and Professional Advisory Council of the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme; Milan, Italy - ( ISPAC)
International Scientific and Professional Advisory Council (ISPAC), founded in 1991, places special emphasis on enhancing the contributions of scientific and professional institutions and non-governmental organizations from developing countries in crime prevention and criminal justice. It hosts a specialized forum for those working in the area of international criminal justice and serves as the body for the coordination of NGO activities and ancillary meetings at the United Nations Crime Congresses.
ISPAC assists its stakeholders with the access to the services and expertise of its constituent organizations, including technical assistance, training, education and research, monitoring and evaluation. This is mainly carried out through the convening of annual conferences devoted to topical subjects. These conferences also serve as an occasion for the PNI coordination meetings.
In 2007 ISPAC organized an international conference on "The evolving challenge of identity-related crime: addressing fraud and the criminal misuse and falsification of identity". The Conference, aimed at building upon the results and recommendations of the UNODC study and further advance its findings by utilizing, refining and if necessary expanding the evidentiary material gathered for the purposes of the study. ISPAC also hosted and coordinated the meeting of a core-group of experts on identity-related crime, organized by the UNODC as the first of a series of encounters among the various stakeholders aimed at promoting and facilitating a constructive dialogue on how to achieve effective synergies and work together for tackling the challenges associated with identity-related crime.
In its projects ISPAC addresses primarily the priority themes identified by the United Nations Commission, inter alia, the elimination of violence against women, organized transnational crime and economic development, crime in urban areas and juvenile criminality and protection of victims.
