On 8-11 July 2014 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, UNODC organized a training course on investigation and prosecution of firearms trafficking in partnership with the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons.
During the training, UNODC experts and twenty national law enforcement and judicial officials reviewed the legal grounds for prosecution of illicit manufacturing of and trafficking in firearms, analysed trafficking cases, explored various investigative techniques and engaged in firearms identification exercises. The participants received practical information on conducting firearms tracing and engaging in international cooperation for the purpose of obtaining relevant and admissible evidence.
The course was developed within the framework of the UNODC Global Firearms Programme and funded by the European Commission under the Instrument for Stability.
