Established in April 2014, the overall objective of the Strategic Advisory Group (SAG) is to advise UNODC, WHO, the World Bank, UNAIDS Secretariat and others on strategies, research and developments related to the global HIV response among people who use drugs.

The SAG is the only existing body that brings together a range of stakeholders such as civil society organisations, including organisations of people who use drugs, implementers, UN agencies and donors, addressing specifically the Fast-Track targets for ending AIDS by 2030 that relate to people who use drugs.

The current (2017-2018) SAG Chair is Ann Fordham, Executive Director of the International Drug Policy Consortium (IDPC) - The work of the SAG is supported by an independent Secretariat hosted in IDPC for the same period. The activities of the SAG are supported by UNODC, WHO and UNAIDS secretariat.
