7 January 2019 - The number of human trafficking victims is on the rise, while armed groups and terrorists are trafficking women and children to generate funds and recruit, according to the latest Global Report on Trafficking in Persons launched today in Vienna.
14 December 2018 - The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) welcomed the historic agreement of Member States to adopt the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration during the Intergovernmental Conference which took place in Marrakech from 10 to 11 December 2018.
6 December 2018 - The continuous influx of migrants crossing the Sahel and the Mediterranean Sea is something that both West African and European governments are working to address. Enhanced international cooperation in addressing this issue was discussed at the joint plenary meeting of the West African Network of Central Authorities and Prosecutors and the Inter-Agency Asset Recovery Network for West Africa, in Cotonou in November.
16 November 2018 - The importance of a well-governed and accountable security sector in effectively addressing transnational organized crime, including trafficking in persons and illicit drugs, corruption and terrorism, was the focus of a sub-regional expert-level workshop for senior practitioners and policy-makers from Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine in Minsk on 14 and 15 November 2018.
16 November 2018 - The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the respective national authorities of Ireland, Romania and Serbia, in partnership with Walk Free Foundation, have carried out studies to estimate the number of victims of trafficking in persons in these three countries. The studies made use of the Multiple Systems Estimation (MSE) methodology and found that, in 2016, there were nearly 200 trafficking victims in Ireland, around 1,200 in Romania and 970 in Serbia.
