Open-ended Intergovernmental Expert Group Meeting to develop a draft set of model strategies and practical measures on the elimination of violence against children in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice, 18-21 February 2014, Bangkok, Thailand

On 18 December 2013, the General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/68/189 entitled "Model strategies and practical measures on the elimination of violence against children in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice", which requests the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to convene a meeting of an open-ended intergovernmental expert group to develop a draft set of model strategies and practical measures on the elimination of violence against children in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice, to be considered by the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice at its twenty-third session in May 2014.
A number of consultations with international experts took place in the course of 2013 to provide the Secretariat with substantive input to "the draft Model Strategies". UNODC further established an Inter-Agency Advisory Group, composed of representatives from UNODC, UNICEF, OHCHR and the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children, which played a key role in assisting UNODC by sharing its expertise and experience to ensure that "the draft Model Strategies" were developed to the highest possible standards and have the potential to be useful to the various stakeholders.
The expert group meeting was hosted by the Government of Thailand in Bangkok, Thailand, from 18 to 21 February 2014 and held in all official languages of the United Nations (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish). The expert group developed the draft United Nations Model Strategies and Practical Measures on the Elimination of Violence against Children in the Field of Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, as contained in the annex to the Report of the meeting of expert group held in Bangkok Document UNODC/CCPCJ/EG.7/2014/4,
