Better prevention for the healthy and safe development of children and youth in Central America
"Prevention Strategy and Policy Makers" is a joint Initiative of UNODC with the Department of the National Antidrug Policies of Italy to disseminate the UNODC International Standards on Drug Use Prevention, supporting policy makers in planning a national drug prevention system that is health-centered and based on scientific evidence. The Initiative was launched on 9 October 2012 in Rome, Italy, inviting the Heads of the Drug Control Agencies of Member States that are interested in participating in this partnership aiming at supporting children and youth in realizing their full potential and reaffirming their commitment to a society where drugs are not accepted as a way of life. The event was opened by Mr. Yury Fedotov, Executive Director of UNODC.
The Initiative will create regional prevention hubs connecting and training policy makers to provide them with the concrete tools to improve their national prevention system, including an archive of effective drug prevention sample programs and materials. The Initiative will initially be active in Central America, Northern Africa, Central Asia and East Asia.
