lllicit manufacture, trafficking and use of amphetamine-type stimulants (ATS) is one of the most significant drug problems worldwide. More than 65 countries have reported ATS-related clandestine manufacture since 1990. ATS and their precursors are trafficked worldwide, affecting all the regions. This report provides consolidated up-to-date information on the current patterns and trends on the illicit manufacture, trafficking and use of amphetamine-type stimulants. It details the situations in 15 countries in East and South-East Asia and the Pacific (Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Republic of Korea, Thailand and Viet Nam) and contains overviews of South Asia and the Pacific Island States and territories.
The report was prepared by the UNODC Global Synthetics Monitoring: Analyses, Reporting and Trends (SMART) Programme which works with Governments in the region to collect and share information and to support authorities in their efforts to improve the ability to respond to the law enforcement and public health challenges posed by synthetic drugs.... more
