Within the framework of the bilateral programme on strengthening the legal regime against terrorism in Yemen, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime's Terrorism Prevention Branch delivered specialized equipment for investigative purposes to the Ministry of Interior in Yemen. The delivery of equipment signifies the importance of data collection within the context of criminal investigation and supporting the work of Yemeni investigators in terrorism cases, with full respect of the rule of law and human rights standards
A ceremony to hand over the equipment was held in Amman on the 18 May 2017. The Ambassador of Yemen to Jordan, the Deputy Ambassador of Japan to Yemen, the Deputy Minister of Interior in Yemen as well as UNODC/TPB representatives were in attendance. The purchase of equipment was part of the project funded by Japan. Attendees expressed their satisfaction and stressed Yemen's need for modern tools to conduct investigations in complex terrorism cases and expressed their hope that the technology will contribute to countering and preventing terrorist threats to Yemen's national security.
