Legislative Assistance

To assist with the incorporation of the provisions of the international legal instruments against terrorism into national legislation, the Terrorism Prevention Branch (TPB), upon request by a Member State, conducts legislative assessments and gap analysis of the existing national counter-terrorism legislation and provides assistance with legislative drafting and revision aimed at helping States harmonize national legislation with the international legal instruments against terrorism. In addition, the TPB recommends administrative and regulatory changes necessary for the implementation of national legislation.

Since the launch of the Terrorism Prevention Branch's efforts in 2003, TPB has assisted Member States with the development of 119 new or revised pieces of counter-terrorism legislation.  In 2013 alone, the Terrorism Prevention Branch provided legislative drafting assistance to 20 countries.
