Organizational Structure

Launched in 2003, the Global Project on "Strengthening the Legal Regime against Terrorism" is managed and implemented by Terrorism Prevention Branch staff at headquarters and in the country and regional offices, in close partnership with UNODC's other branches as well as with relevant international and regional organizations. Staff at headquarters provide strategic guidance, policy coordination as well as management and planning functions, while field officers offer substantive and regional expertise and operational capacity to help develop country and regional programmes to implement UNODC's counterterrorism activities on the ground.

After a recent reorganization aimed at enhancing the ability of the Terrorism Prevention Branch to provide effective technical assistance, tailored to the needs of requesting Member States, and also to remove any separation between its regional and thematic work, the Branch is now comprised of three Implementation Support Sections covering different geographical areas, along with the Office of the Chief. In order to ensure consistency and coordination between the three sections on cross-cutting thematic issues, focal points have been appointed for relevant thematic areas, including transport-related terrorist offences, chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear terrorism and support to victims of acts of terrorism.

Since February 2012, the Terrorism Prevention Branch of the UNODC is led by Ms. Marta Requena Huertas.
