Data and analysis

One of the tasks that Member States has assigned to UNODC is to identify, analyse and monitor global drugs and transnational organized crime threats, knowing that this information enables the international community to define appropriate drug and crime control priorities.

World Drug Report

The yearly World Drug Report presents comprehensive information on the illicit drug situation. It provides detailed estimates and trend analysis on production, trafficking and consumption in the opium/heroin, coca/cocaine, cannabis and amphetamine-type stimulants markets.

Global report on trafficking in persons

Trafficking in persons is a truly global phenomenon: victims from at least 127 countries have been reported, and victims have been reported in 137 countries. Given this diffusion, it is difficult to estimate the size of the problem. Many countries have only recently passed, and some have yet to pass, legislation making human trafficking a distinct crime. Definitions of the offence vary, as does the capacity to detect victims.

Transnational organized crime threat assessments

The world population grows every year, and so does the volume of exchanges among people. The vast majority of these exchanges are legitimate and beneficial, but a significant share is not. Transnational criminal markets crisscross the planet, conveying drugs, arms, trafficked women, toxic waste, stolen natural resources or protected animals' parts.

In addition to periodic global reports and threat assessments, UNODC occasionally undertakes studies on various drugs and crime topics.

The Bulletin on Narcotics contains technical and scientific articles on topics related to narcotic drugs.

The Forum on Crime and Society presents policy-oriented articles on crime prevention and criminal justice. It focuses on trends and practices in the field of criminal justice that are of special significance to the international community.
