New toolkits to use the European Drug Prevention Quality Standards

World Drug Report 2015 highlights evidence-based drug prevention and treatment
|June 2015 - The World Drug Report 2015 includes two chapters devoted to evidence-based drug prevention and treatment. The first summarizes and expands on the International Standards on Drug Use Prevention, whilst the latter discusses the nature of drug use disorders and its implications for the delivery and evaluation of evidence-based treatment, care and rehabilitation services. New tool for finding resources to help young people lead healthy lives and avoid substance abuse
May 2015 - Mentor International's new International Resource Finder is for anyone working with young people to easily and quickly find materials to help them in their work. This interactive tool features more than 100 evidence-informed resources from a variety of leading organisations across the world committed to drug prevention. We hope that this tool will help parents, families, teachers, practitioners, community leaders and policy makers globally to find relevant materials to support their work with young people and ultimately empower young people to lead happy and healthy lives and avoid drug abuse.
Better drug prevention for the healthy and safe development of children and youth in Central Asia
1-3 October 2013 - UNODC conducted the third regional training seminar for the policy makers, responsible for planning and implementing the national drug use prevention response, in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on 1-3 October, 2013 under the Regional Programme for Afghanistan and Neighbouring Countries. This Regional Seminar aimed to technically promote and support the improvement of the coverage and quality of national systems for drug use prevention in the participating countries, based on the UNODC International Standards on Drug Use Prevention published earlier this year, and building on the substantial expertise and activities already existing in the participating countries. Better drug prevention for the healthy and safe development of children and youth in Central America
1-3 July 2013 - UNODC has initiated a dialogue with the countries of Central America and the Dominican Republic on how to improve their drug prevention interventions and policies to make them real long-term investment in the healthy and safe development of children and youth. Read more.
Standing for the right to life: overdose prevention
10 June 2013 - The discussion paper "Opioid overdose: preventing and reducing opioid overdose mortality" was launched by UNODC and WHO during a session of the Harm Reduction International Conference 2013 in Vilnius, Lithuania. The discussion paper outlines the facts about opioid overdose, the actions that can be taken to prevent and treat (reverse) opioid overdose and areas requiring further investigation, whilst promoting the dissemination of best practices on the prevention and treatment of opioid overdose. Youth address delegations
14 March 2013 - Youth participating in activities of the UNODC Youth Initiative and of theNational Youth Leadership Initiative of the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) shared their experiences and vision in mobilization for drug prevention with the delegations to the 56th Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND). Cannabis: A Short Review
April 2012 - A short review of what the evidence says about the effects of cannabis, as well as about what can be done to prevent and treat its use and dependence. This is a slightly amended version of the paper that was distributed during the Commission on Narcotic Drugs in March 2012.
Draft questionnaire on access to pain medication
March 2012 - In 2011, UNODC distributed a Conference Room Paper to the Commission on Narcotic Drugs on "Ensuring availability of controlled medications for the relief of pain and preventing diversion and abuse". Building on the paper, UNODC has drafted a questionnaire with a view to enhance reporting on the impediments to ensuring the availability of pain medications whilst preventing diversion and abuse. UNODC welcomes comments on the draft questionnaire. Read more.

Drug use prevention, treatment and care initiatives
UNODC supports Member States in addressing drug use and drug addiction as any other health disorder: i.e. by implementing drug use prevention interventions and providing drug dependence treatment and care services, which are based on scientific evidence and on ethical standards.
