Corruption represents a challenge which undermines the economic and social structure of communities and affects all members of society. When public funds are siphoned into personal bank accounts, fewer resources are available to build schools, hospitals and roads. When bribes are seen as a normal part of doing business foreign direct investment suffers and economic development is affected. UNODC and partners launch regional programme for South-Eastern Europe

Today in Vienna, UNODC, representatives from South-Eastern European Member States and regional organizations launched the 2012-2015 regional programme framework to counter drug trafficking and organized crime. The regional programme will focus on the southern corridor of the Afghan heroin trade, which for the last 30 years has been a major heroin trafficking route from Afghanistan to the lucrative markets of Western Europe and the Russian Federation.[Read More]
