This booklet constitutes the fourth part of the World Drug Report 2017. The World Drug Report is aimed at improving the understanding of the world drug problem and contributing to fostering greater international cooperation for countering its impact on health, governance and security. The present booklet provides an extended analysis of the global synthetic drugs market, including of amphetamine-type stimulants (ATS) such as amphetamine, methamphetamine and "ecstasy", and of new psychoactive substances (NPS), as well as of GHB.
This booklet also contains the bulk of the analysis for the triennial global synthetic drugs assessment. With the emergence of NPS in traditional markets, the triennial assessment has analysed trends and significant developments in both the ATS market and emerging markets. An important aspect of the assessment is to highlight the links between the traditional ATS markets and emerging NPS markets.
