UNODC, ECOWAS and the EU release WENDU Report
October 2019 – The WENDU Report, the first-ever regional report on illicit drug trafficking and drug abuse in West Africa, covering the period of 2014 to 2017, was published. The Report was prepared through the collaborative efforts of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) with the financial support of the European Union. UNODC supports countries in the Gulf of Guinea in Combating Global Maritime Crime
The UNODC Office for West and Central Africa celebrates the World Maritime Day (26 September 2019), by presenting its key results achieved in the fight against maritime crime through the Global Maritime Crime Programme. Global maritime crime, specifically piracy in central Africa, continues to be a major threat to the economic development of coastal economies. Read more
UNODC supports women as peacemakers in Mali and Niger
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, in partnership with UNWOMEN, has developed a new project targeting women as peacemakers in the region between Mali and Niger. The project aims at rebuilding trust between the most vulnerable communities, the defense and security forces, and the relevant criminal justice chain actors, through a gender sensitive approach.
