The International Anti-Corruption Day will be commemorated around the world in December 2009. These are examples of activities planned to raise awareness about the negative impact corruption has on society.
Qatar
The third session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption will take place from 9 to 13 November 2009 in Doha.
The Conference was established in accordance with article 63 of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, which was adopted in 2003 and entered into force in 2005. Its aim is to improve the capacity of and cooperation between States parties to achieve the objectives set forth in the Convention and to review its implementation.
More than 1,000 participants are expected to attend the event, representing Governments, regional and intergovernmental organizations, civil society, the private sector and the media.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), in collaboration with the World Bank's Communication for Governance and Accountability Program (CommGAP), is organizing a side event during the Third Session of the Conference of the States Parties.
The event, 'Good Practices in Awareness Raising Campaigns', aims to review good practices on anti-corruption campaigns from Member States and civil society to better inform future prevention work against corruption.
This third session of the Conference will be preceded by the sixth Global Forum on Fighting Corruption and Safeguarding Integrity (Doha, 7-8 November 2009), which the Government of Qatar will be hosting.
The Global Forum on Fighting Corruption and Safeguarding Integrity is a multilateral gathering held every two years that brings together government representatives, specialists and academics from various parts of the world to discuss and enhance measures for fighting corruption. The primary objective of the Global Forum is to promote and facilitate international exchanges through periodic meetings.
