Prevention of abuse of Amphetamine-Type Stimulants among youth
Amphetamine-Type Stimulants (ATS) is the group of synthetic stimulants which includes substances like amphetamines, methamphetamines, methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA or ecstasy) and related substances, methylphenidate etc. You will find resources on what are ATS, what are their effects, who uses them and why as well as suggestions on how to prevent their abuse by young people in your community.

The illicit use of ATS (remember that some ATS have a recognised medical use) is a serious problem in many countries and rising in many others. In fact, more people use ATS worldwide than opiates and cocaine combined. Moreover, after cannabis, ATS are the most common illicit drugs used by young people in all the regions of the world. To respond to this situation, UNODC is currently implementing a project to identify and disseminate good practices on preventing the abuse of ATS by youth. In this section, you will find the materials that we have developed as part of this project.

Training materials on ATS prevention
These are the materials that have been developed in the context of our ongoing project on identifying and disseminating good practices on preventing the abuse of ATS among youth. They were tested during training workshops in India and the Philippines and subsequently utilised in Ukraine (for NGOs from Belarus, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine), South Africa (for both NGOs and policy makers of the country) and in Guatemala (for NGOs and policy makers in the Mexico and Central America region). They can be used for a two-day training and, at present, they are available in English. Spanish and Russian translations will be available soon.
