Needs Assessment and Programme Planning
A Global Youth Network Training Workshop
This is a complete training kit on "Needs assessment and programme planning". The materials have been developed on the basis of the "Participatory Handbook for Youth Drug Prevention Programs" and have been used, inter alia, in South and Southeast Asia, East Africa, the Caribbean and Eastern Europe.
During the training, participants discuss what information is necessary to understand the substance abuse situation in a community and to plan an effective prevention response. They then practice some of the most commonly used methods to collect this information and developing a prevention response on this basis.
The training materials were developed on the basis of the Handbook, which should ideally be distributed at the workshop for general reference. The training is available in a 5-day version, which includes a field visit to a community for the purpose of practicing data collection, and a 3-day version, which does not include the field visit.
Thanks to the kind assistance of our colleagues in the UNODC Regional Office for Central Asia, (Ms Ainura Bekkoenova, Ms Galina Fomaidi, Ms Luisa Khanipova, Mr Vitalyi Stolyarov), most of the sessions of the 3-day version are also available in Russian. Moreover, thanks to the kind assistance of our colleagues in the UNODC Regional Office for West and Central Africa (Ms Fanta Diakhate, Mr Mickel Edwerd, Ms Ingrid Oomes), the materials and the presentations of the 5-day version are also available in French!
Besides the Handbook, for each session, there is a .pdf file containing a description of how to conduct the session, and depending on the session, materials to be used in the sessions or to be distributed as handouts. If the session contains a presentation, the powerpoint file is also provided. We have also find it useful to distribute the powerpoint presentations as handouts for reference to the participants.
