Project goal and objectives
|
Project aim and objectives are:
- Reduce HIV/AIDS and hepatitis C prevalence among injecting drug users (IDUs) in Liepāja;
- Promote drug related harm reduction, improve IDUs' health and promote their social integration;
- Implement methadone maintenance therapy (MMT) as an effective treatment method of opioid dependent patients in narcologist practice.

Results
|
- Methadone cabinet is established and equipped (7 Flotes str., Liepāja);
- During the project 16 patients have received methadone maintenance therapy (MMT); at the end of project 13 patients were in MMT. Everyone had access to drug addiction specialist, psychologist and social worker;
- Staff of MMT cabinet have participated in trainings and seminars organized by UNODC and other institutions;
- Held group training for patients - lectures on the methadone program, HCV, HIV, etc. infections, social skills development;
- Translated booklet on motivational interviewing in Latvian language and distributed to all interested parties;
- Data on clients' health status and treatment results have been collected and analysed using Addiction Severity Index (ASI);
- 3 seminars on pharmacotherapy with methadone were held for police, probation and social workers. In total 160 people participated.
