"Support for people living with HIV/AIDS released from imprisonment institutions"

Project goal and objectives

The main goal of the project is to create conditions for PLWHA released from prisons to get help and consultations on social and health issues and to motivate them to continue treatment.

Project objectives:

  • To consult PLWHA released from prisons on health care and social issues;
  • To organize self-help groups;
  • To provide information for PLWHA released from prisons on necessity and existing opportunities of treatment and to motivate them to continue treatment.

During the project implementation organization conducted self-help groups in Alytus Correction House two times a month. In cooperation with NGO "Pusiaukelis" during the anonymous drug users meetings in Alytus Correction House the inmates were provided information on HIV prevention, HIV/AIDS, TB and Hepatitis B and C. They could also receive group or individual consultations.

Association released a musical - informational CD where the information on HIV was put in an attractive form in order to show that PLWHA have a fully-fledged and active life. The disk was distributed in Alytus Correction House and during the international conferences.

Organization staff participated in national and international seminars and conferences as well as organized meetings and trainings themselves in Lithuania.

Main indicators:

  • Number of people who were referred to institutions for social services - 20;
  • Number of individual consultations provided - 100;
  • Number of self help groups held - 100;
  • Number of group consultations - 10;
  • Number of PLWHA released from prisons who received information about the treatment - 20;
  • Number of PLWHA released from prisons who were motivated to continue treatment - 5;
  • Number of CD's released - 2000.
