Counter narcotics practical applications seminar in Bishkek

A Counter Narcotics Practical Applications seminar was conducted in Bishkek for the staff of the investigation unit of the Kyrgyz State Service on Drug Control (SSDC), in the framework of the UNODC project"Strengthening the State Service on Drug Control of the Kyrgyz Republic".

The workshop was facilitated by trainers from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) of the United States Department of Justice, and focused on practical investigation techniques for drug-related crimes. Fifteen officers from the Kyrgyz SSDC took part in the event.

In 2014 the project plans to conduct a series of drug enforcement training courses, developed in cooperation with the DEA. Several training will be organized in cooperation with the Federal Service on Drug Control of the Russian Federation (FSKN). Law enforcement staff from other Kyrgyz law enforcement agencies will take part as well.

Cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the United States in countering drug trafficking has never been stronger. One country cannot confront this problem alone.  It is possible only through multi-national cooperation and assistance from organizations such as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. This seminar is a "good  example of our shared commitment and cooperation", according to Ms. Laura Griesmer, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of the United States to the Kyrgyz Republic.
