Legal Assessment of National Legislation of Turkmenistan in the Field of Combating Trafficking In Persons

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Turkmenistan issued a publication entitled "Legal Assessment of national legislation of Turkmenistan in the field of combating trafficking in persons" on 19 July 2018.

The analysis was conducted within the period November - December 31, 2017. and included the assessment of two main documents of the national legislation of Turkmenistan related to combating trafficking in persons: Law of Turkmenistan "On Combating Trafficking in Persons" and the Criminal Code of Turkmenistan.

The main findings and conclusions of the analysis stated on compliance of the most part of national legislation of Turkmenistan to the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, especially Women and Children, supplementing UNTOC. However, separate provisions of the national legislation are subject to be revised and amended to comply with international standards.
