UNODC, OSCE Contribute to Improvement of Analytical Tools and Skills of Uzbek Officers to Effectively Counter Terrorist Financing 

4-6 December 2019, Tashkent, Uzbekistan - A three-day training course aimed at further strengthening the capacity of Uzbekistan to counter financing of terrorism was organized as a part of the multi-annual training programme on countering the financing of terrorism of the UNODC Global Programme against Money Laundering, Proceeds of Crime and the Financing of Terrorism, Regional Office for Central Asia, and the OSCE.

The training seminar was delivered to nineteen Uzbek experts and practitioners from the General Prosecutor's Office, the Academy of the General Prosecutors Office, the Department at the General Prosecutors Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

"Practical exercises comprise 80% of the CFT program and are based on scenarios that reflect current threats and procedures in the country. Exercises are developed in consultation with national experts of the Republic of Uzbekistan." - highlighted Mr. Aliaksandr Vadziany, UNODC Adviser on counter-narcotics, anti-money laundering and counter-financing of terrorism. The wider UNODC-led training programme on CFT has been in existence for over 3 years and over 30 countries have already benefited.

International and national experts conducted the training course which aimed to assist Uzbekistan in implementing international standards, in particular UN Security Council Resolutions, the Financial Action Task Force on Money Laundering (FATF)'s recommendations and the UN commitments. The course emphasized the key role of inter-agency co-operation in disrupting terrorist financing. Based on country- and region-specific scenarios. It included sessions on financial intelligence, introduction to financial analysis, and vulnerability and network analysis.

The course was organized with the financial support of Russian Federation as a part of a comprehensive multiannual capacity-building program to assist national efforts to counter terrorist financing in Central Asia.
