UNODC conducts a Regional Expert Meeting of Central Asian border agencies

On 10 February 2022, a regional expert meeting of the heads of analytical units of border law enforcement agencies was conducted on the initiative of the Cross-Border Cooperation Project via videoconference.

The event brought together over 40 representatives from the Central Asian law enforcement agencies, the experts from Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Centre for Combating Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and their Precursors (CARICC) and UNODC staff and consultants.

Mr. Yusuf Kurbonov, International Programme Coordinator, UNODC Regional Office for Central Asia, noted that the meeting was organized to support the existing platform for discussion of the drug-related crime situation analysis, information collection and sharing in each country, as well as for identification of needs for analytical tools and equipment, information and analytical materials.

During the meeting, the participants made presentations on corporate information systems and standards for data transfer which are used by competent agencies of the member countries. 

A UNODC expert consultant made a brief presentation on the development of a manual on risk profiling at borders by the UNODC Cross-Border Cooperation Project.

CARICC experts made a presentation on the information and communication system of the centre.

As a result of the meeting, the participants developed recommendations on the strengthening analytical capacities of the agencies in the use of analytical software, profiling, analysis and forecasting, further development of information and communication networks between law enforcement agencies in Central Asia.
