UNODC Organises Public Hearing on Kyrgyz Anti-Drug Strategy

Bishkek. 25 January 2013. A public hearing on the draft "Concept of the State Anti-Drug Strategy of the Kyrgyz Republic" was held in Bishkek. The aim of the event, which was organized jointly by the State Service on Drug Control of the Kyrgyz Republic and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) project "Strengthening the State Service on Drug Control of the Kyrgyz Republic", was to discuss measures to combat drug abuse and drug trafficking in the Kyrgyz Republic.

The event was attended by representatives of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, civil society, academia and international organizations. "UNODC actively supports the development of the national anti-drug policy of democratic Kyrgyzstan. I am confident that the public hearings will elaborate valuable contributions, and Kyrgyzstan will soon adopt its Anti-Drug Policy ", said Mr. Alexander Fedulov, Head of UNODC's Programme Office in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Kyrgyzstan is actively countering drug trafficking routes passing through its territory and implements advanced measures in the field of drug demand reduction", said Mr. Gulamzhan Anarbaev, First Deputy Chairman of the State Service on Drug Control of the Kyrgyz Republic.
