UNODC Regional Office for Central Asia, in collaboration together with the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Narcology to mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

More than 70 experts involved in drug addiction treatment, care and support for people who use drugs took part in the national online conference "Current State and Prospects for the Development of Prevention, Combating Drugs and Drug Addiction".

The conference was held by the UNODC Regional Office for Central Asia in cooperation with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Addiction Treatment, and was dedicated to International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The aim of the event was to create a forum for national experts to share valuable experience on how to ensure the continuity and sustainability of drug use prevention and drug dependence treatment, care and support for people who use drugs.

During the conference, the specialists of the UNODC Representative Office in Central Asia, as well as the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Narcology, raised such important topics as:

• Reorganization of the narcological service in the Republic of Uzbekistan

• COVID-19 and treatment of drug use disorders

• Experience in implementing family skills programs in the primary prevention of drug addiction among adolescents

• Modern approaches to the primary prevention of drug addiction in the framework of activities carried out in the Fergana region

• Medical and social rehabilitation of patients with drug addiction at the present stage.
