UNODC supported a five-day training-course for the Kyrgyz Counter Narcotics Service of the Ministry of Interior

ISSYK-KUL, 29 September 2017 - The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Programme Office in the Kyrgyz Republic in cooperation with the United States Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Office in Bishkek has completed a five-day training-course on "Drug Unit Commanders Course" from 25 -29 September, 2017.

Alexander Fedulov, the Head of Programme Office in the Kyrgyz Republic greeted the participants of the training that was also attended by Mr. Jeffrey M. Eig, Country Attaché of the United States Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and Mr. John Brendon, Assistant Country Attaché.

The training aimed at strengthening the capacity of the Counter Narcotics Service of the Ministry of Interior of the Kyrgyz Republic and Kyrgyz State Customs Service officers and brought together 11 officers. Training was facilitated by three trainers from the U. S. DEA Office of Training, International Training Section.

 "Series of training courses organized this year is a good example of successful cooperation between the UNODC and the U.S. DEA office in Bishkek for enhancing professional level of counter-narcotics officers. We hope that such cooperation will have positive impact on the situation with drug control not only in the country but also in the region,"- said Mr. Fedulov.

Training-course participants developed knowledge on critical incident, case and evidence management, operational planning, leadership and professionalism in law enforcement, as well as countering money laundering and controlled delivery operations through case study method. During active discussions the participants have identified several areas in national drug prevention system that requires improvement.

As a result of the training, 11 officers from the CNS and Kyrgyz State Customs Service were awarded with certificates.

The training-course is a part of the Sub-Programme 1 of the UNODC Regional Programme for Central Asia 2015-2019. It aimed at "Strengthening the Counter Narcotics Service of the Ministry of Interior of the Kyrgyz Republic" funded by the US State Department's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).
