UNODC supports capacity building for lecturers from academic institutions of Law Enforcement Agencies of Uzbekistan

UNODC Regional Office for Central Asia conducted the online Training for Trainers for the lecturers from academic institutions of Law Enforcement Agencies of Uzbekistan, including the Operation Coordination Team (OCT) members. Twelve lecturers from the Academy of the State Security Service, Customs Institute of the State Customs Committee and the Academy of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the staff of the National Information-Analytical Center on Drug Control under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan and OCT members attended the one-week-long training. It was organized within the framework of UNODC initiative on “Countering trafficking of Afghan narcotics in Uzbekistan through the establishment of Interagency Mobile Teams (IMT)”.

The training course was led by the experts from Turkish International Academy against Drugs and Organized Crime (TADOC). That practical training provided useful information on contemporary and efficient teaching techniques, including principles of adult learning, managing the “difficult” students, effective communication and presentation skills.

In her opening speech Ms. Nargiza Abdukadirova, UNODC National Programme Coordinator highlighted the importance of understanding of the unique learning requirements of adult learners from law enforcement agencies to ensure that the training interventions are effective. She also stressed the fact that the main aim of the training is incorporating those effective teaching methods and techniques into the curriculum of the respective academic institutions.

Using the Training-of-Trainers format is essential to ensure the sustainability of the knowledge and skills acquired by the project beneficiaries. The trainers themselves will be better prepared and able to transfer that knowledge to basic recruits and veteran officers via in-service training in addition to the targeted IMT officers.

The training course is a part of “Countering trafficking of Afghan narcotics in Uzbekistan through establishment of Interagency Mobile Teams (IMT)” initiative of the Sub-programme 1 “Countering transnational organized crime, illicit drug trafficking and preventing terrorism” of the UNODC Programme for Central Asia that is implemented with the financial support from the Government of Japan.
