"Young Delegate" 2019: MUN promoting #E4J for school children will be held in Uzbekistan for the first time!

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Regional Office for Central Asia (UNODC ROCA) and the Ministry of Public Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan will be hosting the first ever "Young Delegate" Model UN for school children in May 2019.

UNODC ROCA has been closely collaborating with the Ministry of Public Education addressing crime and drug abuse issues among youth. One of the outcomes of this cooperation, which also contributed to preparation to the "Young Delegate" MUN was the Order of the Minister of Public Education, along with the Charter of the "Young Delegate". Mr. Sherzod Shermatov, the Minister of Public Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Ms. Ashita Mittal, UNODC Regional Representative for Central Asia, issued the Order on establishment of national MUN platform for school students.

In accordance with this Order, the call for application to participate at the "Young Delegate" Meeting was placed on websites of the Ministry of Public Education, xabar.uz, official telegram channels of the Ministry and Youth Union.

The Young Delegate MUN is also supporting the implementation of the Resolution of the President, H.E. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, "On improvement of the system of spiritual, moral and physically harmonious education of young people, and increasing their education and training to a qualitatively new level", as well as the Decree "On fundamental improvement of society, the prevention of crime and crime among students, the development of the "peer-to-peer" principle, the introduction of international experience in the system of work with young people."

During Young Delegate Conference 70 school students from Tashkent. Republic of Karakalpakstan and from other regions of Uzbekistan will simulate the work of the United Nations General Assembly on the theme "Crime Prevention among youth". The Resource Guide for Organizing Model United Nations Conferences that Address Crime Prevention, Criminal Justice and Other Aspects of the Rule of Law, developed by UNODC's Education for Justice (E4J) initiative, will support students to choose the topics, find useful resources and improve their knowledge of crime prevention, criminal justice and other aspects of the rule of law.

School students, who will take part in the Young Delegate Meeting will become future advocates for MUN simulations and will organize MUN Clubs at their respective localities. MUN simulations will help the younger generation in acquiring diplomatic, leadership and public speaking skills, increase their involvement in social life, improve learning experience, determine the future profession.

In future UNODC and the Ministry are planning to organize local conferences on a regular basis throughout the country, based on the practice of the National UN General Assembly Simulation Conference on the topic "Preventing Crime Among Youth", as well as on other relevant topics proceeding from the current socio-economic and youth problems in the regions.

The Order states: "The Conference will familiarize high school students of the country with the UN system, its structure and activities, will contribute to enhancement of problem-solving skills, and diplomatic negotiations. Young Delegate platform will lead young people to make contributions to the development of our state, by gaining of international knowledge and experience, to grow up socially active citizens, who enhance Uzbekistan's international standing."

It is planned that month before the dates of the Conference, the senior officials and experienced staff of the UN offices in Uzbekistan will deliver Guest Lectures to school students, familiarize them with the Rules and Procedures of the Conference, organize online training and hold master-classes in framework of the preparation for the Conference.

The Young Delegate MUN is supported by UNODC's Education for Justice (E4J) initiative, the Central Council of the Youth Union of Uzbekistan and the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
