UNODC in cooperation with CARICC enhances the capacity of Uzbekistan Interagency Mobile Teams (IMT) officers

On 26-30 September 2002, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Office for Central Asia in cooperation with the experts from the Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Center for combating the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors (CARICC) conducted a five-day training course in Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan.

 

The event brought together over 24 officers of Interagency Mobile Teams (IMT) representing the State Security Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Customs Committee, the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the General Prosecutor’s Office from the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the National Information-Analytical Center on Drug Control under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan. 

 

Major General of Police Rustam Miralizoda, Director of CARICC, in his welcoming remarks, commended the efforts of UNODC Regional Office for Central Asia on enhancing the capacities of the law enforcement officers in countering trafficking in drugs and expressed a confidence that the training course would be interesting and fruitful, and would give an effective impetus and serve as an efficient tool in the professional activities of the law enforcement officers of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

 

In her opening remark, Gulnoza Ibragimova, UNODC ROCA National Project Officer, emphasized the importance of strengthening international cooperation in the field of cross-border operations to combat drug trafficking, as well as providing assistance in enhancing the professional skills of the law enforcement officers and expressed gratitude to CARICC for support and cooperation in conducting the training course

During these five days, the law enforcement officers of the Republic of Uzbekistan were able to enhance their capacity and professional skills in the field of combating drug trafficking, the intelligence data collection, analysis and sharing, as well as regional and international cooperation between the Law Enforcement Agencies.

 

The training course delivered by experts from CARICC and UNODC ROCA Consultant was organized on the basis of a combination of several training methods, in particular presentations, surveys, work in small groups and provided both theoretical and practical training sessions.

 

The training program included topics on the role of CARICC within the framework of coordination of international operations in the field of combating drug trafficking, CARICC as a leading platform for regional and international cooperation in combating drug trafficking and cross-border crime, analysis of the drug situation in the Central Asian region and the main development trends, illicit trafficking trends of New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) in Central Asian regions and many more.

In general, the participants noted that the training course fully met their expectations, and that obtained knowledge would be very useful in their day-to-day professional work. Training participants noted the high level of preparation of the event and the experts, as well as an effective way of presenting the training material.

The training course was conducted within the framework of the project on “Countering trafficking of Afghan narcotics and synthetic drugs in Uzbekistan through establishment of Interagency Mobile Teams (IMTs)”. This initiative is funded by the Government of Japan.
