21 April 2025, Quetta - As part of the Balochistan Deliver Justice Project, funded by the European Union, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) continues its efforts to modernize governance systems within the province’s justice sector. In this context, a 3-day consultative session was held in Quetta from 15 to 17 April 2025, bringing together remission experts from across the prison department to strengthen and standardize remission filters in the Prison Management Information System (PMIS). The session marked a key step toward enhancing transparency, consistency, and effective sentence management across correctional facilities in Balochistan.
UNODC Pakistan organized a transformative 3-day consultative session focused on revamping the Remission Module within the Prison Management Information System (PMIS). Held in Quetta from 15th to 17th April 2025, the event brought together superintendents, deputy superintendents, assistants, and computer operators, the core remission experts from across the province’s prison network.
This milestone gathering marked a pivotal shift towards standardized and transparent remission processing. Through collaborative brainstorming, technical deep-dives, and practical workshops, the participants co-developed a comprehensive set of filter parameters and workflows designed to ensure no eligible remission is missed, enabling smoother sentence management and contributing to the long-term goal of reducing prison overcrowding in Balochistan.
The finalized remission filter specifications received formal endorsement from all the participants of Central and District Prisons, including Mach, Khuzdar, Mastung, Quetta, Zhob, Gaddani, and Dera Murad Jamali, ensuring unified adoption and consistent application across Balochistan’s correctional system.
The revamped remission module will stand as a major step toward data-driven prison management, promising consistent execution, enhanced oversight, and a much-needed reduction in overcrowding across facilities.
