Beijing, China, 26 September 2024 – Transnational corruption cases are complex, involving perpetrators and assets dispersed across multiple countries. This makes investigation and asset recovery challenging for law enforcers. Swift informal cooperation and information-exchange is crucial. The Global Operational Network of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities (GlobE Network) creates a crucial space for operational practitioners to find rapid support and assistance around the world.
In September 2024, the GlobE Network held its fifth plenary meeting and eighth Steering Committee meeting in Beijing, China. Over 380 participants discussed the latest developments in anti-corruption law-enforcement and used the meeting as a platform to advance cases.
As an informal Network, the GlobE Network offers a space for anti-corruption law enforcement practitioners to meet in-person, build trusted relationships, participate in peer-to-peer knowledge sharing and collaborate.
“Meetings of the GlobE Network are the best way, and the best possible opportunity for all of us, coming from all countries, to exchange our experience to encourage our efforts to fight against corruption,” said Alexander Barac of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Serbia.
“Through direct interaction, we can discuss the latest trends, key information, or even share resources, which is vital in conducting comprehensive cases,” echoed Ramazan Ibraimov of the Kyrgyz Republic General Prosecutor’s Office.
“Building trust is vital. It’s a natural, but a gradual, outcome and result of all our meetings and dialogues and networking that happens under the umbrella of the GlobE Network,” said Anwar Alqadeeri of the Kuwait Anti-Corruption Authority.
Whilst in Beijing, the Network facilitated 182 operational meetings to move international casework forward. This high level of case-based activity was a direct result of the new relationships and secure communication capabilities gained from Network membership and exploitation of GlobE’s growing Directory of Open-Source Registries.
The GlobE Network is guided by its Steering Committee and supported by a permanent secretariat in UNODC's Corruption and Economic Crime Branch (CEB).
