India: UNODC Joins Forces with India's Ministry of Home Affairs for Pioneering G20 Conference on Cyber Security
UNODC joined hands with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India as a partner for the G20 India Conference on 'Crime and Security in the Age of NFTs, AI and Metaverse.' Inaugurated by India’s Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Amit Shah, the Conference brought together over 900 participants from G20 countries, 9 special invitee countries, international bodies, technology leaders and experts. UNODC Deputy Director of Operations Mr. Bo Mathiasen urged Member States to actively elaborate a UN framework for cooperation to counter the use of ICT for criminal purposes.

Nepal: UNODC's Regional Dialogue Spurs Transformative Action on Early Access to Legal Aid
A regional dialogue on “Early Access to Legal Aid in Criminal Justice Systems” was convened in Kathmandu, bringing together representatives of relevant national authorities--including the police, legal aid providers and civil society--from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, India and Sri Lanka as well as international experts. Participants exchanged insights on enhancing legal aid and strengthening criminal justice mechanisms, with the President of Nepal Bar Association, Inspector General of Nepal Police and UNODC experts. The recommendations will guide UNODC's planned technical assistance on strengthening justice for all.
 
Sri Lanka: UNODC strengthens efforts against Migrant Smuggling and Human Trafficking with focus on international cooperation, anti-corruption     
A bilateral meeting was facilitated between immigration authorities from Sri Lanka and Malaysia in Colombo. With participation of 14 senior officials of the two countries, bolstered communication channels, the meeting promoted vital information exchange and enhanced cooperation in addressing operational challenges. In addition, a Roundtable discussion was also held with members of the National Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force and other relevant government officials of Sri Lanka, to examine the findings of a joint study by UNODC and the Bali Process Regional Support Office titled 'Corruption as a Facilitator of Smuggling of Migrants and Trafficking in Persons.'
Maldives: UNODC Empowers Maldivian Practitioners to Strengthen Responses against Violent Extremism
A resolute call for unity and collaboration echoed at a UNODC national workshop on preventing violent extremism with partnerships and collaboration between law enforcement agencies, civil society organizations and local communities. The discussion was held in the backdrop of the implementation of Maldives’ National Action Plan on preventing violent extremism, and its ongoing review.

India: UNODC Collaborates with Government of India’s ITEC Mechanism to Strengthen Drug Law Enforcement in South-South Capacity Building        
Under the Ministry of External Affairs' Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) mechanism, a five-day training on drug law enforcement was conducted for senior officials from 7 countries at the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes, and Narcotics (NACIN) in Faridabad. Delivering specialised technical sessions, UNODC's drug law enforcement expert presented an overview of the International Drug Control Framework and emerging global and regional trends in drug trafficking.

India: Commemorating the Nelson Mandela International Day, UNODC pushes for Health Dignity and Human Rights in Prisons
Observing the Nelson Mandela International Day, UNODC partnered with the Institute of Correctional Administration, Chandigarh to organize a dialogue with over 120 Indian prison officials and experts, focusing on prison management, health, and human rights. A short film was also produced in partnership with the India Vision Foundation, highlighting the need to protect prisoners’ rights and make communities safer with the Mandela Rules.
