India: UNODC Inter-Divisional Delegation holds talks with key policymakers, stakeholders and partners to boost cooperation
UNODC is expanding cooperation with countries of South Asia to develop the next chapter of programming and partnerships, under the framework of a new Regional Programme for South Asia (2023-2027). A senior inter-divisional delegation from the UNODC Headquarters in Vienna, Austria visited India for comprehensive discussions with key officials, policymakers, stakeholders, UN and partners to strengthen national and regional cooperation in South Asia.
Maldives: UNODC, Government of Japan launch three-year project to strengthen maritime safety and security
UNODC and the Government of Japan have joined hands to tackle blue crime in the Maldives, with the launch of a new three-year project aimed at strengthening maritime safety and security. Supported by the Government of Japan, the project will provide comprehensive assistance to the Government of the Maldives in effectively detecting, investigating, and prosecuting cases of drug trafficking, crimes in the fisheries sector, and crimes affecting the marine space. On 08 March, an Exchange of Notes ceremony was organized by UNODC with the Embassy of Japan in the Maldives, to formally launch the project.

Bangladesh: UNODC Promotes Community Policing to Counter Terrorism and Violent Extremism 
In Bangladesh, UNODC has partnered with the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of Bangladesh Police to support community-based approaches to policing--including enhanced research, training, national coordination and regional networking, as well as a central role for women-led policing. Supported by the Government of Canada, the project aims to strengthen a multi-dimensional approach--with a focus on both, law enforcement and community engagement--to prevent radicalization and support rehabilitation and reintegration of those involved in violent activities.

Bangladesh: UNODC launches University-level educational modules to strengthen academic responses to Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants        
UNODC—under the aegis of the GLO.ACT-Bangladesh project--organized a national workshop with academics from 19 Universities of Bangladesh, to launch the UNODC University level educational modules and teaching guide on Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants. The workshop also provided an interactive platform for faculty members to use the module in classroom settings.

Thailand: UNODC Hosts Cross-Regional Consultation for Prison Officials from Southeast and South Asian Countries
To promote cross-learning and sharing of good practices, a three-day cross-regional Consultation was organized by UNODC in Bangkok, Thailand, for prison officials from 10 countries of South Asia and Southeast Asia. The consultation brought together senior and operational level prison officials from Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Philippines, Indonesia, Maldives, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh to discuss the challenges faced by authorities in providing healthcare services in prisons. The open platform provided an opportunity for attendees to share experiences, challenges, good practices, and solutions on improving health in prisons and detention.

Nepal: Marking International Women's Day, UNODC brings together public prosecutors to address legal challenges pertaining to rape cases        
UNODC, in collaboration with the Attorney General's Office, convened 30 public prosecutors to commemorate the International Women’s Day 2023, with a focused dialogue on trends and challenges in the prosecution of rape cases. This was followed by a community outreach program to raise public awareness around the issue. 
Bhutan: UNODC Empowers Law Enforcement Officials to Counter Trafficking in Persons
Through UNODC’s efforts, law enforcement officials in Bhutan have received a capacity boost on countering Trafficking in Persons (TIP). The latest training, held in Thimphu, equipped 46 investigators and prosecutors--28 male and 18 female officials--from the Royal Bhutan Police and the Royal Bhutan Army with the necessary knowledge and skills to tackle the issue of TIP more effectively.

Sri Lanka: UNODC builds law enforcement capacities to prevent and counter online wildlife crime        
UNODC Global Programme on Crimes that Affect the Environment, conducted two training workshops in Sri Lanka, on Basic and Advanced Open Source Investigations of Online Wildlife Crime, at Negombo and Dambualla in March. About 43 officials from the Department of Wildlife Conservation, Police, Customs and Public Prosecutors were trained on aspects of preventing and investigating online crime.
