UNODC's Education for Justice (E4J) initiative organized, in collaboration with the University of Ghana, School of Law, a conference on Human Rights, Securitisation and Counter-Terrorism in Africa. The event took place in Accra on 10 August 2018 and was part of the 27 th African Human Rights Moot Court Competition, organized by the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria and the University of Ghana.

Some 200 students, academics and university professors attended the conference, the participants coming from 18 African countries and representing 50 universities. The program included keynote speeches from international experts, presentations by regional experts, and panels on the experience of specific countries. Relevant and current topics related to human rights, securitisation and counter-terrorism in Africa were discussed.

The E4J initiative was introduced during the conference, with a focus on the University Module Series on Counter-Terrorism and the Doha Declaration. The Counter-Terrorism university modules were introduced in a comprehensive session, encouraging incorporation of the educational materials into national curricula in universities. Modules were discussed in terms of their relevance to the African context, and how the tools can be utilized in tertiary education.
