   Preliminary agenda

   Call for Proposals

The Conference will bring together over 200 stakeholders from both education and justice fields and will allow policymakers from different areas (such as Ministries of Education and Ministries of Justice), educators and academics to build bridges and propose innovative ways to empower the next generation of change makers.

E4J is an innovative and comprehensive educational initiative, which aims at building the capacity of educators to equip students with a better understanding of, and ability to address, the issues that can undermine the rule of law. The initiative strives to achieve this through the creation and dissemination of educational activities and materials designed for primary, secondary and tertiary levels. These resources are developed in close collaboration with organizations such as UNESCO and in consultation with academia, educators and students themselves. The High-Level Conference will provide an opportunity to showcase many of these materials and discuss their practical application in thematic workshops.

The main aims of the event are threefold:

  • Highlight the importance of investing in and teaching children and youth on the rule of law to make the world safer from crime.
  • Provide a forum for the exchange of good practices among a diverse group of stakeholders, such as policymakers and staff from Ministries of Education, Justice and Interior, educators, educational institutions and universities, representatives from academia, non-governmental organizations, the United Nations and the private sector. The exchange will enable these stakeholders to make joint decisions for a more comprehensive and diversified approach to strengthen education on the rule of law and to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Agenda.
  • Empower educators to integrate teaching on the rule of law into their curricula and classrooms at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels.

In advance of the High-level Conference, the E4J initiative has launched a Call for Proposals . This call is addressed to children and youth and offers them an excellent opportunity to share their experiences, hopes and ideas about the linkages between education and the rule of law. A selected number of entries will be showcased to the international audience attending the Conference in October. The winners' work will also be featured on UNODC social media channels and the E4J website.
